Inability to broker a deal with Toll Brothers for the entire Silver Lake parcel. Stirrup was willing to approve the rezoning application with 120 acres being used for homes. Supervisor Connaughton postponed the approval and gained the remaining acreage, a $3,600,0002 benefit to the County.
Education Emasculation
In 2007, County Board of Supervisors denied a cost of living pay increase to teachers making Prince William County teachers the lowest-paid instructors among major school systems in Northern Virginia.3 (FY 2007 Teacher Salary Information)4
Immigration Indiscretion
In drafting the resolution, Stirrup worked with the Washington-based Immigration Reform Law Institute, the law firm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform(FAIR).5 FAIR's founder and current Board Member is known to have white supremacy ties.6
Power line Panic
While other counties took pre-emptive action to dissuade Dominion Power from constructing high-voltage towers in their jurisdictions, Prince William did nothing. Unfortunately, Prince William County was caught off guard and took no action until after we were in Dominion's crosshairs.
